Special attractions in the area are the Old Ursuline Convent at 1114 Chartres St  -possibly the oldest building in the city and said to be haunted.  Also the Beauregard-Keyes House - named after the general who ordered the first shot at Fort Sumter commencing the Civil War and popular novelist Frances Parkinson Keyes - who were both to have stayed.

At 1132 Royal St is the handsome Gallier House dating to 1857and built by James Gallier Jr - a leading architect in his day.

Madame John's Legacy , just off Royal at 628 Dumaine St, is a rare example of the French Quarter's early, West Indies-style architecture.

Historic New Orleans Collection stands on  533 Royal Street among antique stores and art galleries.

The Historical Pharmacy Museum is an old apothecary at 514 Chartres St. and devotes itself to interesting historical snippets of medicine.
